Farnborough North seems down a lot. However the figures there are inaccurate- most tickets are sold as "Farnborough Stations" so would be lumped in with SWT^▸ (South West Trains)'s Farnborough Main.

Not necessarily.  At the very least they should pick up TVM^▸ (Ticket Vending Machine) sales from Farnborough North, because the ticketing systems will know the real location rather than what is printed.  But they will know a much more accurate figure for sales at Farnborough Main, and they can use this to work out Farnborough North. especially as it is a simple two station fares group.   

They explain how they deal with this on pp 25/26 of the report (via the linked page above).  Basically they use the ratio of tickets actually sold from the individual stations as a proxy for those fares sold to the group of stations from elsewhere.  This process has changed over the last few years, and although there was a period when all sales were associated with the named group station, that is not the case currently.

I didn't know they used figures from the TVM^▸ (Ticket Vending Machine)'s themselves.

I wonder if the fact that in the past 12 months the TVM at Farnborough North has seemingly been broken more often than not has impacted on the overall figures.

The recent RPI^▸ (Revenue Protection Inspector (or Retail Price Index, depending on the context)) stings have also shown what a high number of people will 'chance it' and not bother with a ticket at all.

I've seen more recent figures than this, which reflects more accurate figures at EXC and TRU.

The figures for the first years footfall based on the gateline at Truro have put it at around 1.75 million.

Great to see such improvements at many of the stations, with well over half achieving growth of more than 10% - even Melskham!   

My own personal favourite, Bicester Town, followed up it's huge increase of 75% last year with another increase of more than 50% this year!

As last year, I've produced my own spreadsheet to make the data a little easier to digest.  FGW^▸ (First Great Western) stations only, and listed first alphabetically, and then by percentage increase.  One slight error I've managed to not spot in time is that the % increase columns are from this year against last year, rather than two years ago as the column heading states.

Quite impressive figures at Dean and Mottisfont & Dunbridge over four years.  I wonder how much of that is down to it becoming a generally hourly service Mon-Sat since SWT^▸ (South West Trains) took the service on? 

Is it generally considered that having an hourly service all day makes a significant difference to passenger numbers, AIUI^▸ (as I understand it) it was two hourly offpeak previously - so was that insufficent for discretionary travel such as mid-day shoppers, or for evenings out?

I must admit, I do love Graham's graphical representations, which are good fun to play with.  Despite the figures having to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Check out my favourite Bicester Town - it literally goes off the graph!  Oh, and second largest increase over the last six years in Oxfordshire?  Go little Finstock, go!
