Title: Plymouth Argyle 1 - 0 Liverpool Post by: Chris from Nailsea on February 10, 2025, 15:05:29 From the BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cj02388yr79o):
Quote Arne Slot's seamless succession to Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager has shown he is not only an outstanding coach but a fast learner - but he was given a harsh lesson in one of the game's oldest rules on a wild afternoon in Devon. Never play fast and loose with the grand old FA Cup. The sight of Plymouth Argyle, bottom of the Championship, embarrassing Premier League leaders and the previously all-conquering Liverpool with this fourth-round victory was a compelling response to those who would to attempt to downgrade the magic and history of the competition. A rather good result, for those of us here from Plymouth, eh, TaplowGreen? ;D Title: Re: Plymouth Argyle 1 - 0 Liverpool Post by: TaplowGreen on February 10, 2025, 16:16:01 From the BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cj02388yr79o): Quote Arne Slot's seamless succession to Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager has shown he is not only an outstanding coach but a fast learner - but he was given a harsh lesson in one of the game's oldest rules on a wild afternoon in Devon. Liverpool were arrogant enough to think that their Youth team, with no real first team backup on the bench would be sufficient. I'm in Plymouth later in the week and will be watching Albion on Saturday who are currently enjoying a tremendous run of results...............I have just about recovered from a day at Twickenham on Saturday!!! Yes, congratulations to Argyle. It seems that top level managers never learn! I recall an FA Cup third round match at Old Trafford 20 years ago when Alex Ferguson put out a 'third string' expecting to beat (then) non-league Exeter City. He had to rely on his full strength first team to beat little-old-Exeter in a replay at St James Park! (writing this before the event) I expect Nottingham Forest will not be quite so arrogant on Tuesday evening! You say youth team, but had a greater average age than Argyle! Liverpool’s average age of their “youth” team was 25, Argyles main team 23! Sounds pretty youthful to me! :) Title: Re: Plymouth Argyle 1 - 0 Liverpool Post by: froome on February 10, 2025, 21:35:23 To follow that, Plymouth have been given an away tie at Manchester City.
What chance a second toppling of a giant? Title: Re: Plymouth Argyle 1 - 0 Liverpool Post by: Chris from Nailsea on February 10, 2025, 22:26:12 ;D

What chance a second toppling of a giant? Third.....they've already beaten two Premier League teams (Brentford as well as Liverpool) Title: Re: Plymouth Argyle 1 - 0 Liverpool Post by: Bob_Blakey on February 11, 2025, 08:11:44 I don't have much interest in football / soccer / wendyball* but it would be remiss of me not to mention that tonight it is Exeter City FC's turn to try and make headlines by seeing off Nottingham Forest.
(Given Exeter's recent form I guess the bookie odds on this would be pretty good). *Choose your preferred This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
