I will be changing at Chippenham - half an hour or so there to get a coffee at the "ungry are" before joining the Oxford direct.

I rather think that's where I'll be meeting you.

Are there any other of our Coffee Shop members or readers who may be able to join us?

A very warm welcome awaits anyone who can - for all or even part of the trip.

There are .. a lot of .. of likes and people tagging each other on the Facebook post; I've said I'll be at the station in good time to help show people how to kick and prod the TVM ... don't be surprised to see more people with me.  I will be changing at Chippenham - half an hour or so there to get a coffee at the "ungry are" before joining the Oxford direct.

My central heating boiler passed its "MOT" today - although I think the case is the only original part.

Well, our car didn't exactly 'sail through' the MOT test, but it did pass, thanks to the timely use of an absolutely pristine spare wheel.  Apparently, we do need a new tyre, which is being sorted out tomorrow by our excellent local garage.

So, I shall be out and about on the trains on Saturday morning: tickets being bought online, to be collected from our local TVM tomorrow afternoon.

With the benefit of a Senior Railcard for me, a shade over £27. Good value: I really will try to make it to Oxford (domestic commitments permitting).

Hmm.

That's an interesting idea, grahame - I am indeed rather tempted.

My only proviso is that our car is due in for its MOT tomorrow, and while we don't expect any issues which might need to be resolved in the following two days, you never know. However, if the car sails through, so to speak, I would like to have a day out on the trains on Saturday (in excellent company, as well).

Having looked it up, I could get a train from Nailsea at 09:29, to meet you at Chippenham to get the 10:44 to Oxford, arriving at 11:27.  My return journey could be the 16:30, via Didcot and Swindon, with a cheerful 'cheerio!' to you at Chippenham.

You would need to be aware, though, that I would be watching very closely to see where you are taking pictures: it's not Taunton, but I've been caught out so many times in the past when those appear out on the forum.

A local Facebook post I have made ...

On Saturday, I'm headed out by train from Melksham to Oxford for the day - 10:02 from Melksham Station, changing at Chippenham for the direct train to Oxford arriving there at 11:27.  £21.80 day return adult fare.  There so much to see and do in Oxford - I'll personally be "taking in" the History of Science Museum and talking a walk along the Oxford Canal this weekend - and returning on a train at 16:30 (or 14:05, 18:32 or 20:05 depending on how my day goes), changing at Didcot and Swindon.

If you are new to the train, or simply fancy a chat on the way to Oxford, happy to show you the ropes.  Do arrive at Melksham Stations a few minutes before the train leaves so that we've got time to use the ticket machine.

P.S. If you have a railcard or are a group of 3 or more adults, there's a third off that price. Children half fare. Babes, dogs, cycles no extra charge.

I had been planning to travel to Oxford last Saturday - but got tempted by the London Transport Museum Store on one of its occasional weekend openings.
