5:58 Newbury to Paddington yesterday morning

First-time poster.

Does anyone know what happened to the 5.58 from NBY^» to PAD^» yesterday morning? It was cancelled once it reached RDG^‡.

I know there were problems on the line between RDG and PAD - PAD staff advised there had been late running engineering works around Swindon and some points failures around Slough but that would suggest delayed rather than cancelled trains?

It may have been that because of the over-running engineering and infrastructure problems there were problems pathing all the timetabled services. The 0558 is semi fast to Paddington from Reading (only intermediate stop - Slough) and there are other semi-fast options departing Reading within 20 minutes of the scheduled departure of the 0558 ex Newbury. As well as alternative express services direct to Paddington.

If it was pathing constraints then it could be that cancelling the 0558 at Reading was the least worst option all round.

That's one possible reason, could be many others.....

Thanks bignosemac, sounds a cogent reason.
Can't say it was very welcome for those of us on the train, having to get off at a freezing Reading station! There seemed to be a LOT of delayed trains that morning...
