FGW▸ (First Great Western) have always allowed carriage of surfboards on HSTs▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) during summer months on services to Cornwall (ie in the guards van of a HST, or occasionally in an additional vehicle not for passenger use in a HST set). Looks like they may be charging for this option in future. The NRCoC▸ (National Rail Conditions of Carriage) allow TOCs▸ (Train Operating Company) to offer conditions in addition to the minimum laid down. So FGW can allow the carriage of surf boards either free or for a fee.

For the rest of the fleet, I believe the NRCoC will apply with a ban on carriage of surfboards. Although some discretion may be shown by guards/conductors particularly on connecting units to Newquay. If space allows then I'm sure most guards/conductors would allow on appropriate services.  Recently I saw two young female surfers one evening who were planning on catching the 0524 BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains)-PAR the following morning. Not sure how they got on - literally and figuratively.

Haha yes I think I saw that one too.  No way can things like that be allowed on board. Ludicrous.
