Can anyone point me to research where I can identify (for every 1000 passenger journeys by rail):
a) How many are made accompanied by a dog
b) How many are made by an adult in a wheelchair
c) How many are made accompanied by a cycle
d) How many are made by a baby / toddler in a buggie / pram / pushchair
e) How many are made with significant luggage (of the type / quantity you would need to check in if flying)
and
f) How many are accompanied with other things I may have forgotten in my list!

I'd sadly doubt such statistics are available, accurately anyway.

a) How many are made accompanied by a dog do dogs get charged for? of not they travel unrecorded
b) How many are made by an adult in a wheelchair unless pre booked for wheelchair assistance again no statistics will be available
c) How many are made accompanied by a cycle probably partially available, on reservation compulsary journeys
d) How many are made by a baby / toddler in a buggie / pram / pushchair again travel free unticketed so probably no stats available
e) How many are made with significant luggage (of the type / quantity you would need to check in if flying) again travel free unticketed so probably no stats available
f) How many are accompanied with other things I may have forgotten in my list! again travel free unticketed so probably no stats available

Pretty much each of your list is unticketed, so few stats will exist, unless someone has stood at a train boarding, with a clip board

You may be right, except that there are stats available and published by age group and gender (and I'm not yet aware, but open to be corrected, of male-only or female-only tickets).  In the absence of such data, does anyone (especially members who travel by train after train regularl as part of their job) feel they could make an educated rough guess?  And, yes, I'm very much aware that some of the figures will differ wildly from line to line, and even by time of day.

That is quite surprising, 100 years ago or so they had seperate male/ female carriages, so would of been easier back then. How do they record such stats then, is it a simple survey at ticket purchase!
