Following Liam Fox's resignation as Secretary of State for Defence, Phillip Hammond will replace him.

The new Secretary of State for Transport is to be Justine Greening, MP (Member of Parliament) for Putney, Roehampton and Southfields.

Ms Greening was formerly Economic Secretary to the Treasury.

Perhaps you meant a 'tongue in cheek' smiley ChrisB.

Why would a new SoS mean cancelling IEP (Intercity Express Program / Project.)?. Haven't Hitachi already been awarded the rolling stock contract? Isn't preparatory work on the OHLE already underway?

One can only hope but I doubt it though. Glad Hammond's gone.

Gosh ... musical chair ministers again.   Looks like we have someone new who's on the way up rather than down; good thing, I think.

New Transport Secretary, same civil service, same plans.

Different situation entirely when the government changes, but there's little precedent for a new minister making waves after a reshuffle...

I wonder whether Teresa Villers will be annoyed at missing out on the top job in the department again?

I thought it was unusual for them to be promoted within the same department.  There's generally a few sideways moves before the supposedly better MPs (Member of Parliament) rise to the higher positions..

Tormented Theresa left on the trackside again....
TO: 3 More3 recipientsCC: recipientsYou More
Villiers the guarded van must feel she is on a one way journey to Werrity wagonworks ...soon to be closed.

First she is shunted into a siding as High Speed Hammond sweeps past on to higher things. When she hears that he has reached his destination well ahead of schedule she sees the points change and hope once more she will get the chance to queen it over the main line.

But wait ! Who's this ? It's only Justine the Calculator engine fresh from Cameron Central in her new all over light blue livery with no libdem yellow lining, counting the rods poles and perches on the mainline.
Will she refuse to be coupled to the main engine ?
Surely all the signals indicate that Villiers is careering out of control  and is soon going to hit the buffers.....
