At long last it looks like work is soon to start at Slough.

Not before time!

Network Rail announced this a few weeks ago, and as we've discussed before it is in the London and SE area of their site, so maybe FGW (First Great Western) didn't pick it up...   Grin

From the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page):

Quote
Slough railway station upgrade officially opened

Slough's railway station has been officially opened following a ^4.9m, nine-month upgrade.

Paralympic gold medallist swimmer Jeanette Chippington conducted the ceremony following a performance by Slough Music Service Choir.

The Grade II listed station has been revamped to include a new footbridge, lifts, information point, upgraded ticket hall, waiting room and toilets. The forecourt has also been upgraded as part of a town regeneration scheme.

Slough deputy council leader James Swindlehurst said: "Given that Slough railway station is a major transport hub for the Olympic rowing events at Eton Dorney, we hope the improvements to the station will offer an enhanced travelling experience to the thousands of spectators and athletes expected to visit the area."

In addition to the forecourt improvements, the ^450m Heart of Slough regeneration scheme has also provided a new bus station, cultural centre and office developments.

The station work has been carried out by Network Rail and First Great Western.

Slough is one of 148 stations that received funding to provide better access as part of a ^370m government scheme.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Disappointed BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) couldn't even include a picture of the new station.
