Yes, I would like you to tell me where each of these was taken, but what more can you tell me about them - odd little historic points or things that mean the pictures are just a bit different from the norm.

The top one is Platform 1 at Swindon

3 is a specimen of bridge rail - the sort Brunel used on the original GW^» (Great Western - used as an abbreviation for the area / lines under the Great Western franchise, as opposed to FGW which includes "First", the company operating them too. For tickets - about).

5 is portsmouth so you have a lm unit and a fgw one on a fgw service at a south west trains ran station

Are you sure about this?  P3 at Portsmouth and Southsea LL has no canopy, and P3 at the Harbour station isn't straight, and has a footbridge...

Is the 3rd one down Winscombe by any chance? I know there's some old rail (still in situ when I lived there!) preserved in concrete on the former station site there.

The Bridge rail isn't Winchcombe, I'm afraid.   I've found it to be surprisingly common; unlikely to have anyone guess where.

Now - what's the difference / special about 1 and 5, and what are 2 and 4.

I take it from the time on the clock at Swindon that this is one of the Sunday trains from Swindon via the Trans Wilts to Weymouth.  Perhaps the first?

Is 2 at Weymouth quay by any chance - just a guess. 

If so is the bridge rail on the Weymouth Quay also.

Yes ... the whole series was in fact take last Sunday. 2 x 150/2 (4 car) from Swindon to Weymouth. The weather forecast wasn't briliant, but never the less we had a good load of passengers with us from Swindon and the numbers on board grew with good joinerships at Chippenham and Melksham. 

Pictures 2, 3 and 4 were all taken across from Weymouth Quay station; the Bullhead rail is embedded in the quayside as a trip hazard mooring point, and the Bridge rail is a handrail on the steps up to the green behind Nothe Fort - which is open to view (fee payable - lots to see) and plenty of special events - next weekend is a "Victorian Weekend" for example.

The fifth picture is the stock for the 17:56 train to Bristol and Cheltenham, which usually leaves from platform 1 but on this day went from platform3. With the front carriages for Bath and Bristol, the rear ones for Chippenham and Swindon, and with passengers for short-platformed stations having to go in the front of their portions, some of those old fashioned running boards would have come in really useful.  The rear 3 coaches were dettached at Westbury, forming the 19:35 Swindon and Cheltenham train - nearly every seat taken to Melksham, where it thinned out somewhat.

Great day had by all.   It was the second time that I've been down to Weymouth on the service, and there are still a number of things I want to see down there. Real happy atmosphere on the train too; I'll be going at least once more.

Just goes to show if you run a train at sensible time (not sure about 06:25 on a Sunday though) to a sensible destination, with a return service giving a decent time at the destination, people will use it.
