Tonight on BBC2 (12th June 2011) there were two programmes presented by Richard Hammond and James May respectively. Both programmes featured trains in one guise or another.

Richard Hammond's Engineering Connections focused on the technology behind Japan's Shinkansen trains.

James May's Toy Stories saw another attempt to run OO ((Double O) - model railway, 4mm to 1 foot scale) Gauge trains between Barnstaple and Bideford.

Both great shows and available via the linked text on BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) iPlayer until 6pm ish Sunday 19th June.

Richard Hammond's Engineering Connections focused on the technology behind Japan's Shinkansen trains goes a long way to explain why the new IEP (Intercity Express Program / Project. This will offer more capacity on routes, save money, give a consistent and safe service and meet customer requirements. Intended to replace HSTs.) bi mode will have engines distributed along the train and not have a 100 Tonne dead weight in one place
