Gatwick Express Fares

Can I just double check something with anyone "in the know".

A fare routed "+ANY PERMITTED" from anywhere to Gatwick Airport is valid on the Gatwick Express?

And only tickets routed "NOT GATWICK EXPRESS" are not valid?

Or does it work like HS1^▸ and require you to hold a special type of ticket?

If the first one is true, I've found a way of making Gatwick Express tickets slightly cheaper.

Can't see why not. Gatwick Express is no longer a TOC^▸ in it's own right, merely a trading style of Southern.

Educated guess, but probably by buying a +ANY PERMITTED ticket to GTW from somewhere just outside London which ends up cheaper than a full fare VIC-GTW?

But Southern still carry on as though it still is an independent outfit in certain respects - even if many 'GE' services now run to and from Brighton. Barry Doe wrote about the silliness of the situation in the last but one issue of Rail.

Bromley South was the one I spotted, however I'm sure there are alternatives which are even cheaper.
