The interlocking renewal at Southampton Central appears to be having teething troubles.

Intuitively the problems appear to be west of the station, because at the moment the Poole service is terminating at Eastleigh, XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) Bournemouths are terminating at Central, FGW (First Great Western) Portsmouths are diverted via Eastleigh, and other FGWs cancelled at Salisbury.  Most other mainline services are running with some delays.

Line problem at Southampton Central.
Train services at Southampton Central are being disrupted due to signalling problems.Engineers are working as fast as possible to restore services to normal. Short notice alterations and delays of up to 30 minutes can be expected.
Services between Salisbury and Portsmouth currently unable to call at Southampton Central. Services will call additionally at Eastleigh. Customers to/from Southampton should travel via Eastleigh - a limited train service is in operation between Eastleigh and Southampton

Problems occurring since this morning when it said over running engineering works, does anyone know what (and where) the actual problem is?

From what I can gather they've mucked up some of the signals west of Central station. They had relaid the eastern approach, so maybe over the bank holiday weekend they've replaced the other side?

No, as I posted earlier this weekends work was 'just'  Smiley the switchover from the old interlocking to the new.  They've replaced the original SSI (Solid State Interlocking) with Alstom Smartlock, but reusing all the existing trackside interfaces.  AIUI (as I understand it) the S&C (Settle and Carlisle ) replacement at the east end was coincidental, as they've been installing the new interlocking for many months - a press release on the Signalling Solutions website explains that the first work was done in Dec 2009...

The current diversions and cancellations showing on NR» (Network Rail - home page) LDBs definitely point to a signal or points problem west of Central though.

The point that I was trying to get across - rather unsuccessfully ... was that the FGW (First Great Western) website was quoting trains as stopping at 'Eastleigh East Junction' rather than Eastleigh station.....

Looks like somebody has added a passing point instead of a station. There's also an SWT (South West Trains) train currently listed as stopping at Brookwood Country End, Brookwood and Brookwood London End!

First Great Western services which operate on the Portsmouth Harbour - Southampton - Bristol Temple Meads - Cardiff Central and Brighton - Southampton - Gloucester - Great Malvern routes will NOT be able to call at Southampton Central. These services will call additionally at Eastleigh where it will be possible to change trains for services to / from Southampton Central.

Technically, that is correct.  Although it could be argued that the service does not stop between Eastleigh and Fareham, which are both shown on the map.  How is the passenger supposed to know which route the train will take, especially when it was originally timetabled to go through Southampton?

Common sense would suggest this line should be included.

Apologies for hijacking your post!  However accidentally including reporting points in public announcements isn't that unusual when they are coping with disasters, so I moved on to explaining what had been going on that might have caused the problem in the first place...   Embarrassed
