British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) were called to Langley train station today at 12.20pm after reports of the incident which involved the 12.06 Paddington to Penzance service.

A spokeswoman said: "Paramedics from the Royal Berkshire Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the man's identity and inform his next of kin."

The death is being treated as unexplained and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

I was caught up in the tail end of this - I arrived at Paddington at 2, by which time the half-hourly trains west were still being cancelled and the hourly ones leaving late. To be fair though it all seemed very orderly, with plenty of announcements, and was by all accounts pretty much back to normal for country-bound passengers (apart from nothing stopping at Langley) by 4. Well done FGW (First Great Western).

Just loads about the trains.

I know they have little to go on, but they could be even slightlymore sympathetic, I feel. Thats likely someone's loved one....

While I do agree with your concern that the deceased person may well have been someone's loved one, ChrisB, the perhaps brutal fact of the matter is that there is an accepted formula for the reporting of any such incidents.  When

I've just heard from two people I know that were caught up in the delays caused by the second one..

One was trying to get back to Maidenhead.. delayed by an hour and 20 minutes..

The other is heading back to Swindon.. Left Paddington at 6.30.. arrived Reading at 9.30..(and it was his birthday)

This shows the amount of disruption there was.

Meanwhile..all sympathy to the train drivers and members of staff and anyone else involved with and affected by these...

Sorry, Chris, but 'unexplained' means just that - that all avenues are still being explored & the Police are still treating the incident with an open mind.

"No suspicious circumstances" is the term you were looking for, for your definition.

I was told that both were non suspicious.

The train involved for the 2nd one was the 18:22 which is why Jo's friend was stuck on the 18:30 for a while.

Nowhere in the quoted articles is the word 'suicide' mentioned. So it appears the only presumptions being made are by you, ChrisB.

'Unexplained' will not include the possibility of foul play. It's used to cover 'death by misadventure', 'accidental death' and 'suicide'. The police would, in all likelihood, say if they are treating the death as suspicious and beginning a murder enquiry.

Meanwhile, I too would like to express my sympathy to all those involved, particularly the train driver.
