"An advanced railway could soon be whisking passengers from the centre of Cardiff to the Bay ^ over the heads of people walking below.

Plans for an elevated railway were discussed yesterday by representatives of Cardiff City Council and Monometro, a Blackwood-based company that has developed the state of the art system with the help of Saudi investors".

I'm wondering how they are going to balance the Class 121 Bubble Car on this monorail.  Grin

The monorail is not dead. A recently (re)built monorail in Ireland:
http://www.lartiguemonorail.com/Index.htm

and one that was rethemed in 2008 in England:
http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/attractions/transport/monorail.htm

In Scotland you had the railplane:
http://www.dewi.ca/trains/bennie/car.html

And in Northern Ireland, a vertical monorail is being used to apply building cladding:

I wonder what form Cardiff Bay will take  Cheesy

You've forgotten the most famous monorail in THE WORLD.

http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&xhr=t&q=wuppertal+schwebebahn&cp=9&pq=wuppertal+schwebebahn&rlz=1W1ADRA_en&wrapid=tljp129922666449030&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&sa=X&ei=JaBwTezuOYyzhAe_-tBS&sqi=2&ved=0CDgQsAQ&biw=897&bih=605

Wonder why it's the only one of it's type?

I would like to know how much this is going to cost. However if  that is what private investors want to spend their money on and isnt going to cost taxypayers then i say we should let them get on with it.

I must admit it would be cool and a bit strange to have a monorail in cardiff, might be better than having a heavy rail line to cardiff bay

Actually, the MonoMetro system is an updated version of the Schwebebahn.  I'd like to see it in Bristol instead of some rubbishy bendy bus route.

Some rubbish bendy bus route is better than a new road.
