Train tickets and UG tickets different?

Well thankfully I am reunited with my railcard and card !!!! No more ticket issues

But I did have an issue today that cost me money

Remember I posted about was my kew to zones 1234 ticket ok to break at  charing cross to get me to pad?  Well it worked.

So this morning on the way in, I knew I had a trip to croydon to make so - still no oyster card this morning - I fought the ticket machines at pad and got a london cross ticket to croydon.  Figured the same rules would work!

Nope - had to bloody well buy a new ticket at charing cross to get to croydon since my ticket didnt work!

Let me OUT at charing cross - I wanted to go back into charing cross to get TO victoria or london bridge

But you can only travel from one br station TO another on those tickets, no break of journey through barriers allowed

yeah - but thats why I was confused because my one trip from kew bridge to an UG station DID^▸ (Didcot Parkway) allow a break of journey - tis just the same but in reverse to my logic

Yep as you have discovered on the cross london portion of a ticket you cannot break your journey.

But I did on my kew bridge to london stations - it allowed me to do exactly what I tried to do in reverse

I brooke my journey at charing cross today and waterloo the other day

Well if the barriers let you fine, but it's not valid for a cross london journey.

Kew Bridge to 'Zone1234' is not the same as Kew to London Terminals, despite London Terminals being on the Zone 1 boundary it isn't a ticket valid to 'within' Zone 1, and I don't think this is really a 'cross London' issue at all.   

The former allows entry at Kew Bridge, then exit from a London Terminal, then entry to the underground then exit from the underground anywhere in zone 1-4, so AFAIAA it allows (for example) Kew Bridge > Waterloo NR^» (Network Rail - home page) > Waterloo LU > Paddington LU.  Or Kew Bridge > Waterloo NR > Charing Cross NR > Charing Cross LU > Paddington LU.

Alternatively, suppose you used a non barriered route into LU such as Kew Bridge > Clapham Jn > West Brompton > District Line > Paddington LU. In that case you'd have finished with the ticket without going through a NR exit barrier.  So once you are in the underground, you can only leave once.

The latter ticket, ie to London Terminals (not stations, I think) would be passed through Waterloo NR's barriers, because they are set up (unusually) to allow onward travel via Waterloo East, but if you chose for instance to go from Kew Bridge to Victoria via Clapham Jn, the ticket would be retained at Victoria's barriers.

Perhaps Mookiemoo could say exactly what the origin station was on her original ticket to Croydon?

If I bought a ticket from Paddington to Croydon I'd expect to go any feasible route including Wimbledon and Tram. So Charing Cross would seem ideal change London Bridge to Thameslink (OK FCC^▸ (First Capital Connect) but I'm a luddite). Do they still run the Tabby Cats (signalman's name in the 60s) from Charing Cross so you wouldn't have to change.

What about Padd Farringdon change to Thameslink, no barriers.

I thought heavy rail was suppose to be fully fare zone compliant. How come we can  make simple journies so complicated?

Yes, you could go Charing X to London Bridge & pick uop a train to Croydon. Not sure a train ticket is valid on the tram - it's not a Travelcard.

But definitely only available from one BR^▸ (British Rail(ways)) station underground to another BR station underground...and for one trip only.

If I recall correctly, Mookiemoo stated that she had 'flashed' her previous Kew ticket at the Underground gates as she wanted to leep it. Maybe that's why you were able to re-enter the tube system?....
