This might be better suited in another area of the forum as it's not about FGW (First Great Western), but I am looking at prices for a single journey on East Midlands Trains services from London-Chesterfield for my sister to travel on Bank Holiday Monday 25th April, and despite National Rail's website saying advance fares are now available for the period including this date, there doesn't seem to be an option for Advance fares (usually around ^20) on this route on April 25th, both EMT» (East Midlands Trains - about) and NR» (Network Rail - home page) sites tell me the cheapest available on this date is ^62.50. Do they not do Advance fares on public holidays then, or do you think I am still a little early in looking despite the NR site saying they are available and they will be released later?

On another note - why do all the different TOCs (Train Operating Company) actually have different dates for releasing advance tickets? They all use the same NR booking system, so surely they should release them all at the same time?

They might be waiting for engineering alterations to be finalised?  I've successfully booked cheapy tickets (on East Coast) for 26th and 28th April, so some cheaper fares have been released that week.

That's a good point! I hadn't thought of engineering works!  Grin

Weekend/holiday tickets tend to be released at different times from weekday tickets, if that's any help.

It is, thank you.

It certainly doesn't say that here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html

It's definitely implied though.

Why else would the table full of dates have three separate columns for weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays?

I'd guess it's not open yet - Bank Holidays are usually considered as Saturday service (currently showing open until 23rd April)

It's a busy day for travel with back to work the next day, so you might find that they're not offering (m)any - they might have all gone.
