From the Liverpool Echo: Delays at Liverpool Lime Street station after train hits bull
Hundreds of Merseyside commuters were caught up in a two-hour delay after a train hit a bull.
Festive shoppers and workers faced chaos as services out of Liverpool Lime Street station were postponed or cancelled following the incident, which happened around 4.50pm yesterday.
A London Midland train travelling towards Liverpool collided with the bull near Acton Bridge, in Cheshire. The animal was knocked onto the adjacent line, delaying trains travelling away from Liverpool Lime Street towards Crewe.
A spokesman for London Midland told the ECHO: ^The driver was very shocked. He knew he had hit something enormous, but could not be sure what it was.^ He added: ^The bull clipped the side of the train, but if it had hit head on then this incident could have been a lot more serious.^
At least 10 services were affected and there were several cancellations. One passenger, who had travelled into Liverpool for the sales, said: ^It was chaos. It took ages to get home.^
Network Rail were called to the scene and removed the bull^s carcass. Normal service resumed by 7pm.
