Exeter Central Station is now adorned with multiple copies of the following notice (which have obviously been very rapidly turned out via MS Word*):

PLEASE TAKE CARE...
THE STAIRS HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH A NEW NON-SLIP SURFACE

Am I the only person who thinks that distracting passengers with written warnings concerning an obvious safety improvement - the coating is black in colour - is a bit nuts?

(*other word processing software packages are available and may well have been used in this case)

Similar signs put up at Oxford a few years ago when the same thing was done. They may even still be there but I can't remember clearly. Although quite how a non-slip surface is likely to cause accidents I am unsure, unless those who were previously in the habit of surfing down the stairs on the soles of their feet are now being caught out and surfing down on their face instead.
