Hi

I've noticed that some of the DMU▸ (Diesel Multiple Unit)'s display a paper 'X' in the Cab window. Could someone tell me what it means? Does it help identify a particular type of train or service for signallers?

Just curious...

Normally means a fault with the coupler is preventing it running in multiple from that end only, ie the other end is still OK.

Often seen on EMUs▸ (Electric Multiple Unit), some depots put up a label saying 'Non Mult' or similar.

Can also be for problems with alignment of through gangways if a particular vehicle has suspension issues.
If you've seen more of them recently it's probably due to a snow build up inside the coupler.

the increase of N/M labels is due to coupler defects awaiting repairs,but with current state of fleet they have been unable to stop as yet.
