Just found this fascinating document whilst trawling The Railway Archives looking for something completely different! http://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/documents/BRWR_Pullman1960.pdfA full technical description of the 'Blue Pullman' rolling stock, the routes it travelled, along with timetables, fares and the ^ la Carte menu. Quite an impressive menu as well; top nosh which could be accompanied by fine wine, a selection of apertifs and spirits and finished with a Havana cigar!

I certainly travelled on the Western Blue Pullman to Bristol I think. Unfortuantely i was in the powercar which unlike the HSTs▸ had seating. A bit noisy I seem remember.
The best pullmans IMO▸ were the loco hauled ones used on the West Coast (all First) to Manchester) and on the East Coast I think to Leeds. Travelled on both.

Or for the slightly less discerning, a can of Skol! Nice link BMN - there's literally thousands of interesting documents to be found on that site. Some of the accident investigations (pre 'Black Boxes') make fascinating reading.

William Huskisson MP▸ was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830. Many more have died in the same way since then. Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

I can claim a South Wales Pullman journey from Cardiff to Paddington which must have been in the early 1960s as part of a treat trip to London - Science Museum/Tower etc etc. I will have to ask the aged P but I reckon that must have been 1962 or so. I am, as they say, in an old situation. I think this is the dementia smiley - - (all together now) but I can't remember.

Well, I'm far too young to have experienced any British Railways/British Rail Pullmans, but FGW▸ 's offering is, just about, keeping the tradition alive.
The food is still excellent, as is the service, but I fear it is not long for this world.

I'd always been led to believe that this stuff was the height of sophistication in the 1960s and 1970s...!
