Broken Rail between Dorchester and Weymouth

Travelled from Dorchester South to Weymouth late last night (2nd Sept), and as the train came off the jointed rail, and onto the welded, just above Bincombe Tunnels, the noise of the wheels on the rail became very irregular, and movement of the train not that to which I'm accustomed on that section of the line. I nearly told the guard, but thought it would be me being silly.

However! Today the line was shut (Southbound) between Dorchester and Weymouth, due to a broken rail in the exact position I heard the unusual noises. I never realised it was noticable that a defect had occured - and more surprised that any of the train crews (six trains passed over after ours) didn't pick up on it.

Will report it next time!

It's always worth speaking up even if you think you might feel a bit of a chump. I pointed out to a conductor some rough riding (well rougher than normal in a 143!) over points at Avonmouth a couple of years ago. He agreed with me and contacted control immediately.

Possibly, although at least a couple of them have had hissy fits and shed engines onto the floor at some speed!
