Virgins Voyager stuck in west Cornwall failed this morning and FGW (First Great Western) came to the rescue using a spare 153 and crew and operating a Penzance - Bodmin - Penzance working vice VXC (Virgin Cross Country - former franchise). Better than yesterday when the first working out of Penzance, FGW's 04:26 departure, was cancelled due to no driver OR guard!! Then the first HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) up was 30 late due to more rostering errors. Centralised rostering, u know it makes sense :S

As all trains are treated the same in timetable so you don't know whats gunna turn up, so they didn't miss it. Also the 153 was detatched from a 153+150 combo meaning over services ran short formed.

You mean to say FGW (First Great Western) had spare stock?

Explain to me why a single 153 has been running on the Paignton* - Exmouth - Barnstaple route all half term Wink

You'll have some nice 2 CAR class 142's soon! the Falmouth was a 153 for most of the week due to the engineering blockade, just something we gotta live with during engineering blockades. Think FGW would have struggled big time if they hadn't hired in the 67's and stock!

It's been mostly 150s in Barnstaple this week - and despite this the 0841 and 1040 from Barnstaple have been full and standing every day so far: indeed, there were - allegedly - 94 standing on the 1040 from Barnstaple this morning.

Even the 1240 had a few standing passengers from Crediton today - entirely due to luggage on the seats, mind.

The Paignton branch is quieter at half term, which is why it's closed for engineering then. Wessex always said so, so it must be true Undecided

Yeh. In Cornwall they had tow HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units))'s three 150's a 153 a voyager and the class 67's. They all had 1hour and a half turnaround time at Penzance.

I'm glad I put that "allegedly" in, as I've just seen a photo of the train in question, and unless 40 or 50 people got off at Umberleigh and Eggesford it wasn't even close to 94 standing...
