There will be the chance to check out the designs for part of a new walking and cycling route for Salisbury on Thursday. Sustainable transport charity Sustrans and Wiltshire Council are exhibiting the plans so local people can learn more about the scheme and its aims, ask questions or give their views and talk to the project team. The route on display runs along Churchfields Road to the railway station and is part of a wider scheme from Wilton to Salisbury. The scheme is part of a Sustrans project to create more transport links for local communities across the
UK▸ and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund after Sustrans won a national TV vote to secure The People^s Millions in 2007. It is hoped the routes will benefit pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair or mobility scooter users and parents with buggies.
Alistair Millington, Sustrans area manager for Wiltshire, said: ^We want to make Salisbury safer and more accessible for people to make their every day journeys on foot and by bike.
^The route along Churchfields Road is an important link into the city centre, the railway station and one of the main employment areas for the town. This exhibition is a great chance for local people to get to see the proposals scheme so they can show support for it or talk to the team behind it about any issues or concerns they may have.^
The plans will be available to view at Grosvenor House on Churchfields Road from 12noon to 8pm.
