just noticed that gbrf have lost the contract for one of the loco hauled diagrams out of taunton and that db will be taking over with a second set of 67's, due to very poor reliabilty of the 57's

That's rumoured to be the contributory factor. Presumably DBS» (Deutsch Bahn Schenker - UK (United Kingdom) website) were offering a far more reasonable price!

sorry for the late reply dm, i knew that but wouldnt you think that they would have gave both contracts to them?

anyway moving on thats gone now, but the loco and coaches aint they are abandoned at platform 1 at taunton while the second diagram now resembles a 90'd scene with intercity red stripe livery (my fav) and t&t 67's

I got the sleeper last Saturday to Penzance and it was hauled by 57 Pendennis Castle. Very smart green livery and very good publicity judging by the number of passengers commenting on it and taking photos at Penzance.

The mk 3 coaches certainly show up how the refurbished HST (High Speed Train) mk 3s were downgraded. I had forgotten the open ambience of the old layout where you can see down the coach and easily look out the window - wonderful.

As an aside it always makes me smile when I book a local FGW (First Great Western) web ticket on the 0657 Perranwell to Penzance and it comes up with enter male/female.

You have to remember that the Mk3 seated coaches on the Night Riviera are just the old 1st class day coach layout with refreshed textiles and a lick of paint.

Personal preference is the old style seats over the leather ones in 1st class. Apart from those pesky fixed armrests though!

I think i'd rather have the leather seats on the sleeper, it's very difficult to sleep with those fixed armrests.

That may account for why the up sleeper was still in platform one at Paddington at 08:30 this morning.
