I was looking at the Bristol Temple Meads live departure board on Saturday and I saw a National Express East Anglia service to Penzance. I was very suprised as you don't normally see those trains in the West.
It started at Tame Bridge Parkway and terminates at Penzance. There was also services from Penzance to Gloucester and London Paddington.
I thought it may be summer Saturday only services. Does anybody else know about them?

No, nothing of the sort. It's a strange bug in the system that for some reason often seems to show up charter trains as operate by NXEA▸ (at least in FGW▸ territory, possibly elsewhere too). Did you really think that NXEA would be running a summer Saturday service from Tame Bridge Parkway or Gloucester to Penzance, all of which are hundreds of miles outside their operating area?

It's simply a way of allowing charter trains to appear in various live departure versions, they shouldn't really be on there.

Perhaps they didn't think about this when designing the system, but couldn't they have put an additional TOC▸ in the system, e.g. Charter, which can be used for these purposes?

FGW▸ doing it on the cheap again...
The ex-wessex system, which, for the time being is still at Cornish stations, has always allowed the TOC▸ decription to be put as "Charter"

In fairness I don't think it's the FGW▸ system at stations (which, as a passenger, I'd take over the ex-Wessex system absolutely any day of the week) but the National Rail live departure boards system online.

It has absolutely nothing to do with FGW.

would have also been interesting to see an electric powered train try to get down to Penzance without wires!

"On the cheap" hardly bears scrutiny when looked at against the ongoing work to renew and install additional help points, same again for CCTV▸ and last, but not least, replace the three CIS▸ systems with a single, new system and upgraded hardware. Slough and Oxford were the pilots for this project.

It has absolutely nothing to do with FGW. I not so sure.. FGW has a system which doesn't allow "charter" to be input as a TOC▸ Wessex does.... you get what you pay for

old original, you're barking up completely the wrong tree here: the original poster's comment related to the online live departure boards system, which is provided and managed by ATOC» and completely independent of FGW▸ 's station customer information system. Nobody has been told at an FGW station that a charter service is operated by NXEA▸ .
The FGW system certainly allows notes to be manually added under the train in question. I'm really not sure though where you get this bizarre idea that the old Wessex system is superior to the FGW system, because from my experience it has always appeared to be the opposite!

would have also been interesting to see an electric powered train try to get down to Penzance without wires! Don't see why not ... an electric powered train made it to Minehead the weekend before last. The Hastings diesels - as I understand it - have electric traction motors which are powered by onboard diesel generators.

Or maybe they'd hire in a 47 from DRS▸ to tow a mark 3 set, if they were feeling extravagant
