Sounds like one of their fancy new wagons for replacing points quickly. The deal is that the turnout is assembled ahead of time (rather than on site) then loaded onto the wagon and transported to the work site on an angle so it more or less fits the loading gauge. Then at the work site it's unloaded from the wagon whole and moved into position.

Much quicker than building the turnout piece by piece on site!

Carries large chunks of points from one place to another then dumps them on the ground so they can be installed.

Because the points are assembled in an engineering depot ahead of time and then carried to the work site more or less intact, it means replacement is much quicker than building the point on site starting from individual sleepers and rails. That means shorter engineering possessions for replacing points and fewer replacement buses, in theory.

Thank you - the reason I noted this.......


My feet are currently bleeding due to a recurring infection - I arrived off the london midland service to hereford over the bridge from where ludlow goes from


Never having a problem before I asked the london midland TM▸ (Train Manager, or possibly Ticket Machine, depending on context) what to do - they said hang about and someone will be here to help you - I had a back pack, suitcase and fragile carrier - I was no able to do the bridge

I am not disabled so I did not book that - I'm not

So......After 10 minutes I knew what times the passenger trains were and I headed for the flat access - the staff are supposed to contact the signal  say someone is being walked over then say they are gone.....

I saw no staff - I shouted and hollered - I missed THAT by two minutes - what was I supposed to do
