The Eastbourne Airbourne event takes place from Thursday 12th August to Sunday 15th August 2010. This event is FREE and takes place on the seafront. This is the worlds biggest 4 day free airshow.

I found this post unduly sarcastic and dismissive, particularly when addressed to a member who's only been with us for a few days. 

There is an FGW service at 07:01 from Portsmouth Harbour to Brighton (arrival there 08:20) - it's a real "oddball" as it doesn't appear in many (any?) of the FGW timetable cards, and it takes a route that's not even shown as being served by FGW on their definitive map. An ongoing connection from Brighton to Eastbourne, with Southern, would get you to the event.

In all seriousness, James ... this one's probably getting a bit off topic; we tend to post rail interest outside the area in "the wider picture" and other topics within / effecting FGW 'territory' in "The West - but not the West's trains",   but we tend not to do stuff that is both non-rail and non-west related unless it has lessons for the West's transport (I'm thinking of the eye we're keeping on the Cambridge Guided Busway when I make that exception!)

Airbourne is always a good event, I always remember being in town (but not watching) back when had the tragic plane crash into the sea from where I was could hear the planes, and then it was just pure silence.

FGW to London Paddington, change onto the Underground (Circle Line) direct to Victoria and then take the Southern service to Eastbourne. Easy unless you have very heavy luggage which is very awkward on the underground as there are no lifts. I am not looking forward to going on the underground carrying our heavy suitcase up flights of stairs.

You might advocate FGW^▸ (First Great Western) to Reading, then take Turbo to Gatwick Airport and Southern to Eastbourne.  This avoids the hassle of the underground change (even if you do get a 165/6 unit with failing Air con).

Thank you for letting us know about an alternative route to avoid using the tube. We do not know if the ticket we bought is valid on the route you suggested. We are travelling on the 12:30 from Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington. The route on the ticket states Slough but Slough is after Reading. Would this be possible to take the route you suggested instead? It should be allowed as it is the same price as the train we are booked on.

Sounds like you have an Advance purchase ticket, so you have to do what you are booked for.

Sounds like you have an Advance purchase ticket, so you have to do what you are booked for.

Ok thanks for letting me know. You are correct we do have advance tickets. I don't really care how we get there as long as it is quick and cheap.

Or..you could walk out of Paddington (no steps)... up the ramp.. Turn left into Praed street and walk to the bus stop and then get on the 36 or 436 bus which takes you straight to Victoria.. It's much much more pleasant and quicker (generally) than the tube...

Is a cross-London ticket marked with the + symbol also good for cross-London transfer on London buses or is it just the underground?
