This train has been cancelled. This is due to signalling problems.

Road Replacement transport will operate between Melksham and Swindon via Chippenham

And as I write, the 05:19 Gloucester to Southampton via the TransWilts is showing up as overdue at all reporting points - I suspect it's not running at all.

Bristol -> London services skipping Chippenham (and Bath, and Keynsham) too.

An 07:32 Westbury to Swindon would be a much better timing for the potential traffic on the line than the 07:02 which runs on non-bank-holiday days (Monday to Friday service).  The following train on the normal Monday to Friday service from Westbury to Swindon does not leave Westbury until 19:35

Well if nothing else it proves that the First Great Western Alerting Service actually works. I've been signed up to it since its started, probably two years ago now, and this is the first time I've noticed it saying anything other than "There are no reported problems on your selected service" - even when I know full well the train from Melksham has been cancelled or short-formed.

Today though, huzzah! I received an email at 06:45. It reads:

Quote
Disruption has been reported to services between your selected stations Melksham to Swindon.

- General disruption along the line caused by signalling problems may lead to cancellations or delays to the 07:47.

Further Information is available at http://www.fgw.co.uk.

Line problem at Chippenham.
Train services at Chippenham have been disrupted due to signalling problems. Engineers have worked as fast as possible to restore services to normal. Delays of up to 15 minutes may still occur.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Indeed ... and this evening's Worcester to Southamptopn train was cancelled from Worcester Foregate Street, Shrub Hill and Ashchurch - appears to have started at Cheltenham.  Hope it runs - I'm droping three off at the station and collecting at least one ...
