If anyone sees this before tomorrow can anyone enlighten me as to whichbof the Penzance to Plymouth fgw trains tomorrow will be hst. I know the 1400 is but I discovered my check out is 1000 (not 1200 as is assumed) so may want to head back ealier than booked.

I know from Plymouth to newportbit will be a vomiter but hey ho.

As an aside - when standard wasbpacked yesterday I could not believe how fewbpeople yaws weekend first!

1000 from Penzance is a FGW (First Great Western) HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)), arrive Taunton at 1334. Then 1411 from Taunton direct to Newport arrive  1606, should be a Class 158, thus neatly avoiding a Vomiter and another change at Bristol. Or take the 1354 Vomiter from Taunton and change at Bristol for the 1448 to Newport arriving 1527.

The 1000 from Penzance has a Restaurant from Plymouth at 1200, maybe enough time to sample the Pullman lunch offering; ask nicely to be served first and you may get two courses in before Taunton!

As it's a BH Monday you can upgrade to Weekend First on the leg from Penzance to Taunton, that's if you're not on a 1st Class ticket already!

EDIT: Thought just occured to me. As it's a BH Monday the Pullman restaurant may not be running....will still be a HST though!

2nd EDIT (  Roll Eyes  ) The 1354 XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) Vomiter from Taunton is routed tomorrow via South Wales arriving Newport at 1508. Engineering I guess.....

Units are actually quicker through Cornwall than HSTs (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)).  I overheard a driver telling a guard that this is because they spend less time at stations.  And...as speeds are limited this side of the frontier, the pointy nose things cannot attain full potential velocity.  A bit like the 153s on the Falmouth branch which hardly spend any time at all at stations due to poor reliability. Units don't carry 1st class, and regulars on this forum know that FA likes her creature comforts.  Cheesy

bit late now but there should have been an additional HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) at 1048 off PNZ today.

Well I got the 10am, went as far as reading as taunton was jammed and I didnt want to face a unit - got the 15:11 to Swansea and then connected there

Decided paying the extra was worth not having a sardine can

Still home two hours earlier than planned.

And yes, if that tale is true - I DO like my creature comforts.  What I want is a table I can work on and that involves a 17 inch laptop and course books etc etc - and I normally pay for it!

If some guard is muttering about FA - if he sees me face to face - :-) - bring it on - :-)

yeah - but you probably also know that I do travel Arriva Snails Wales a lot and they don't have first either - but then I don't use them on a bank holiday monday afternoon when even the HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units))'s are full to bursting.

Example of why I don't really like units if I can help it:

Friday I had to go to a major Boots store - choice - Birmingham or Cardiff.  Chose Cardiff - more easy to get to.  Hopped on the 1611 from ludlow which is normally a minimum 3 car if not a six since its the first south bound for about 2 hours since it has to make way for either a few freight trains or the wagex running through.  Friday - it was a 2 car 175.  I did have a seat after Hereford but with so many people on it, it was unbearable and I got off at Abergavenny to wait for the one 20 minutes behind which was empty.  Had there been a first class on there - I probably would not have had to get off as it would have been full but not a sardine can.
