TheTrout has travelled to various places over the past few days. But this interesting place has been a highlight  So if I showed you the following picture of a Ticket Machine, can you tell me where I have been today...?? I expect some of you will get it straight away, whereas others will find this one exceedingly difficult...!   |

St Ives Branch Line? My thinking is that there is a day rover ticket system in operation on this line and that machine could suit it quite nicely.

Yeah, I was thinking that it looked like a US map, Bob_Blakey; but in my experience ticket machines there all have slots clearly marked "Coins" and "Bills". Plus it's a bit of a way to go for a day trip (unless you're Conservative Party leader and have your own private jet of course)
Was the photo perhaps taken on the Isle of Wight somewhere?
My initial thought was that the machine is in Chiltern Railways colours but I'm struggling to think of anywhere particularly "interesting" or worthy of note on that route.

Pierhead, Esplanade or St John's though..?! That must be some kind of record for a town of Ryde's size, three "mainline" railway stations still in use.

As far as I'm aware, SWT▸ /Island Line only use Scheidt & Bachmann machines, where installed. I think they've got rid of all the Ascom machines now.
So perhaps this is a bus/ferry ticket machine? Could also be for the steam railway?
Edit: Scrap that. It is Ryde St John's Road. Just spoken to a friend from the island and asked them if any of the stations had tickets machines that looked like parking meters (they must have though I'd gone crazy!) This is exactly the type of machine we need on the SVB line; although I don't know if usage would be that high if you can still buy tickets on the train.

Oooh The Crab! That's the thatched jobby innit? Luvverly pub. Whiled away a few hours in there when my Ma lived on the IOW. (And I failed an interview for a job as a screw at HMP Camp Hill - it was all down hill from there - so far down hill that I ended up experiencing life in prison from what may be called the wrong side!)
