Hi

Putting it here because it could fit into any one of three boards - Londton Reading, South Downs or other ways to travel.  I'll leave the mods to decide.

anyway, getting into Marylebone at 19:15 tonight (W&S▸ (Wrexham and Shropshire (Open Access Operator))) and need to get to bracknell.

Option 1:
Maylebone to Paddington to Reading to Bracknell

Option 2:
Marylebone to Waterloo to Bracknell

Thinking (2) is less faffy.  Time isnt really an issue - only going to crash in hotel.

That's even fewer trains.   Or the 702; Marylebone to High Street Ken on the Teacup line, then transfer to the coach.   Guess who runs Greenline these days ...

Forgive us TransWilts types - we get very used to looking up the bus options!

Wot's wrong with the Bakerloo Line to W'loo?

Suggest booking to Zone 1 rather than just  M'bone, to save being stung for a tube single.

Bracknell isn't so bad from W'loo - going all the way to Reading (c19 stops) is a yawn - you need a rent book more than a ticket.

Pity there's not a Wycombe - Maidenhead - Bracknell bus.

There is one that goes to Reading though, think it is the 850? and then from Reading either get train or another bus, like 190/191?

Out of interest, why is there no more station link bus as this was useful before for people confused by  London transport as it enabled connection between stations without endless changes without confusing people unfamiliar with travelling. Surely this would help in many cases for transferring people between stations without using the undergroung which amny feel unsafe about?

half a mile in a bus, about 2 in the back of a car and maybe 10 in the front seat if not driving.

Thats all I can do before my fellow occupants get to see what I ate for my last meal!

The train is definitely best then for you  Grin

Out of interest.. Did you do Waterloo to Bracknell.?. It still really is a very long journey for what has to be less than 30 miles but takes 60 minutes..

Yes I did and door to door it is actually longer than going via reading - even the journey planner says so - by about 10 minutes,

However I assumed most of that was over inflated cross london transfer times as usual - but not, especially out of hours, its the connecting to the one train an hour.

Had I gone via Reading I would have had a choice of oodles of trains to reading then 1 an hour each of waterloo or wokingham and then a cab (so long as he lets me sit in the front)!

However I am bored of reading so went waterloo!

tonight coming home I went via reading.

The reason for the sudden defection to W&S▸ (Wrexham and Shropshire (Open Access Operator)) is very simple - if I'm going down and staying over I can pay an extortionate amount in the peak to go via newport or I can pay 50ish quid each way and get fed - so tonight I had mushroom soup followed by lamb moussaka followed by chocolate tart - and when I got home at 1030, I didnt have to cook!

When I end up going daily again - which I sadly will at some point, even if its only change of client, I 'll be back to FGW▸ (First Great Western)!
