I understand that Devon County Council will be installing a ticket machine for the rail station car park at Exmouth shortly.
The machine will dispense a ^5 ticket, which includes the return fare to Exeter St Davids, for travel before 8.30am with the same ticket costing ^4 after that time.
No provision has been made for season ticket holders. I have taken this up with both FGW▸ and DCC» and both seek to pass the problem to each other.
Clearly season ticket holders are not worthy of consideration when the opportunity to levy new charges comes about...

Sounds to me like DCC» run the car park in which case you should be able to buy a season ticket for DCC car parks. ^5 is an absolute bargain I might add. ^5.40 at Paignton will get you as far as the ticket office!!

Sounds like shades of the Judean People's Front/People's Front of Judea going on here...dontcha just love local government bureacracy!
On a more serious note though, I think most people would agree that in principle this scheme is a very sensible one. It's just that at the moment its execution seems to require rather more thought and finesse than has been applied so far.

Having looked at the rail-only season ticket cost, about 85p extra per day for parking doesn't seem bad. What exactly is the issue?

Oh dear probably cost too much to have season tickets due to the large number of "bean counters" that will be needed to apportion revenue.
However if FGW▸ are getting a portion of the ^5 for travel then surely it is not beyond the wit of mankind to calculate season ticket rates with similar ratios.
I would suggest for peak
^25 for 7 days to encourage weekend travel.
^100 per month
^250 for 3 months and nice round
^1000 for annual (200 or so working days brings back to a fiver)
Revenue apportioned in the same ratio as day tickets.
Oh dear my brain hurts!

Basically because if you travel the same journey fairly frequently 4/5 times it week it saves the hassle of buying a ticket every day and usually works out cheaper than the day rate per journey. More so the longer the period of the season ticket. So having one ticket for carparking and your rail journey should appeal to anyone who commutes regularly parking at Exmouth and onwards by train. |

I will accept the desire to save the time buying separate tickets every day. Fair enough. I was probing  the expectation that there should be a further reduction on what seems (to folk in this part of the country) to be a good VFM ticket. |

The point I was trying to make is that, having paid for a season ticket, I should not have to spend a further ^4-^5 a day to use the Rail Users Car Park.
Even if I use the attached EDDC car park, I will still need to spend an additional ^3 a day or so.
Non season ticket holders are effectively getting their parking for around 30p a day. Why should I have to pay more as a season ticket holder?
