Not sure if this has already been posted elsewhere - but there is wonderful blog this week by a chap who has bought a one week 1st class season between the West Midlands and London - and is trying all the route options including FGW (First Great Western) Pad to Reading and then XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)).

Thanks for posting that Grandsire. I've not had a chance to read it all thoroughly yet but I will.. Meanwhile sounds like the First Class lounge at Paddington was very much the favourite..

Yes, newly refurbished it should be really.  You'd definitely find me being soaked up in one of the leather chairs, rather than the contemporary area with Sky TV and flashy chairs.

This wonderful blog now goes on to tell us of his standard class experiences with an all companies season. http://birmingham2london.blogspot.com/    WS&M comes out best and my impression of his blog is that the only benefit of travelling Virgin is the speed.
