I'm a iPhone user and have the National Rail app (price ^5.99) - have to say, it's an amazing piece of software.  Lets me track live arrivals and departures from every station in the UK (United Kingdom), plan trips, find next train home from wherever I am in the country.

It earned its purchase price back before Christmas when it alerted me to the cancellation of my nomal train home. If I hadn't know that, I would have been stranded.

One thing occurred to me the other day after spending my usual 15 complicated minutes booking my weekly advance travel on the FGW (First Great Western) website...  surely someone's missing a trick here.  Why isn't there a 'one-click' option on the iPhone app (with card details already stored etc) that books with the relevant operator and makes buying simple?

Anyone else use this app and had same thought?

i have also had that thought and there is a security issue, one way of addressing it would be to have payment processing threw the app store but i dont think they do variable pricing has to all be pre programmed..... its a big job!

The free thetrainline ap has this ability as far as I know however it probably charges a booking fee.

Personally I use the cross country ap which has live departures built into it amongst other things.

I regularly use the NR» (Network Rail - home page) iPhone app to give me up to date platform info for my punters  Grin

The trainline app says it does but when I tried it the only option was to close the app and go onto the website

Nice one Donkey Guard  Cool

The only way is to leave app, go to website and book (which is damn near impossible on iPhone).  Pity.  Ah well.

iPhone app aside, FGW (First Great Western) booking is effective but not very intelligently designed interface.
