New train crew terms & conditions...

So how can this happen - I remember last year (2008 in case anyone reads this in a week or so's time) when Charlie boy visited worcester. All the parking near the station building was roped off from the night before, there was no explanation until later the NEXT day when the staff at the station could disclose why - it was all hush hush
Yet the queen can board a commuter service with regular passengers?
I also suspect that her carriage was for her ONLY - I once tried to board a service from Reading to worcester where all of H was out of bounds - EVERY seat was booked - in fact no sooner did you set foot in the carriage than someone was telling you to LEAVE NOW. Turns out it was a royal family member.

From the Daily Express article referred to in the original post on this topic: Officials ensured nobody else sat in the Queen^s 12-seat compartment, although they insisted it would have been opened up to passengers if the other first-class compartment had been crowded.

Well I cant comment about that trip however I do know on the occasion that H was out of use - there were first class passengers standing. imagine the 1722/1822 from PAD» with H totally out of use - there was a not a seat in F or G. and there were passengers standing. Was it the same as A-E in terms of standing , no. But FC‡ passengers generally do not expect to stand. didnt bother me as I did my usual, work out which diagram the train was on therefore which platform we'd be going from and hedging bets against a set/platform swap so I was well seated before the crowding became an issue.

yes a tie-up with another thread about OAP table use would be quite apt

Charlie came to visit the Met Office in Exeter recently, and the security around EXD» and the Royal Train parked up by Newton Abbot was immense, before and during the visit.

"One would also like to see that youth removed from one's carriage, before one sits down."
I'm offended now... (joking! ) I'd love to see the look on Brenda's face if FallenAngel pitched up next to her and got her laptop out!!
And then thetrout appears armed with his 17 inch Dell Studio Lappy, external hard drive and 3G modem to take up the remaining 50% of the table (again a joke )

Had one of those experinces today where you look out of a train window - something passes and you can't work out what it is because it doesnt match anything you are expecting. Was relieved to see that it was the Royal Train http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iulwyiIPVQk

Wonder if they were even on it? They'd have travelled overnight (racing the sleeper) and I don't know when their "day" in Cornwall finished.
As an aside I wonder what the powers that be would have done if the Royal Train had been caught up in yesterday's problems around Castle Cary or tonight's problems in the Thames Valley.

I imagine Network Rail do their damnedest to ensure the Royal Train always gets through. Signallers are made aware that the royal train is in their neck of the woods as it carries a unique headcode. 1X-- I believe. Can't be seen to unnecessarily delay Brenda. One would not be amused. Perhaps her Maj should take more journeys on normal passenger workings to get a flavour of what her subjects have to often put up with. She has slummed it on occasions: Link to Reuters article. Although I believe the proles were turfed out of this particular 1st Class section of a FCC▸ train!
