...........and the local councillors will be able innocently to commiserate with the protestor(s) while accepting the invitation to drink the railway's champagne at the formal opening of the extension!

The Helston Railway reopens this Thursday. The line now will operate a service, hence qualifying for VAT▸ exemption for the first time. The rebuilding of Truthall Halt enables passengers to travel from the new starting point of Prospidnick and leave the service before getting a subsequent one to return. More promising is that the former base at Trevarno, which has been closed to the public, since the neighbouring gardens were sold, closed and reopened as a private home, is now available as a request stop in the new 2017 timetable. http://www.helstonrailway.co.uk/

(© Mick McCarthy)"On Thursday, 1st September, the current Mayor of Helston – Councillor Gillian Gear – and Mrs. Elizabeth Bolitho were in attendance when the former Commissioner for Transport for London ( TfL» ) and now the Chairman of Network Rail – Sir Peter Hendy, CBE – officiated at a similar ceremony to launch a short extension and a new platform at Trevarno Farm for the Helston Railway Preservation Society (HRPS)." A former station reopening in Cornwall is an extremely rare occurrence and the reappearance of Truthall Halt on a railway timetable for the first time since 1962 has an added significance in that it'll be the most southerly railway station in mainland Britain.

Nitpicking.

Visited today The Loco Trevarno (some clarification, seems you can get off, but there's no apparent way to reach the highway, nice for a picnic but nothing else) Truthall Halt

An update: Truthall Halt was formally reopened this month by HRH the Duke of Gloucester - the prince, not the locomotive ;-) - and so becomes mainland Britain's most southerly station. It has also been announced that the SDJR Trust's Peckett, Kilmersdon, will be arriving from the WSR in May and will haul a BR▸ suburban coach on loan from the South Devon railway along the mile-long track during the 2018 summer season.

On a point of order, Mr Chairman, can a Halt be at the end of the line?
Shouldn't it be Truthall Parkway? There's space for a car outside the gate.

On a second point of order, we don't have a chair - we have a webmaster. There have been services that terminate at halts in the past - and the Helston Railway looks to its heritage from the past where that's appropriate. Bedwyn Halt, for example. And trains reversed, and still do, at Coombe Junction Halt. Perhaps Cortyon Halt is the closest to Truthall though, with the line going no further than the halt having been closed beyond; not sure when "halt" was dropped from the name.

The first steam service since 1962 is due to run into Truthall Halt this coming Sunday. It's the farthest south a locomotive can go on the island of Great Britain.

A cracking day out. Fantastic achievement by the Helston Railway. Very well attended by the public as well.
The Kits loved it, so happy days all round.
