Park and Ride For LONDON

Hi

Am looking at a family day trip to London but don't want to pay the full fare between Exeter and Paddington (are based in East Devon area) - are there any suitable stations along either the M5/M4, even M25 close M4 that are suitable for this (also could look at stations along A303/M3 or M25 close M3?) I would appreciate your suggestions for this if you could?

A303/M3 to Basingstoke, then either park at/near station or use Park and Ride (signposted from M3 http://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/planning/transport/Park+and+Ride.htm ).

Then around ^23 for an Adult One Day Travelcard. Two flavours, one via Reading, one via Woking. Around ^40 for for the ODT (2 adults 2 children) if you have a family railcard.

Didcot Parkway is one possibility.

Though surely with a railcard a family can travel from East Devon up to London on SWT^▸ for a reasonable price?

On similar (South West) Lines ... I tend to use Andover if I'm heading for London / South Bank area but car park tends to get full; Grateley has been recommended to me as an alternative, and is close to A303.

2 adults, 2 children with family railcard ^98.30 Off Peak Day Return (arrive after 1000 weekdays) or ^124.70 Off Peak Day Travelcard (arrive after 1000 weekdays) Exeter SD - London All Zones via Honiton.

If you don't mind driving to the M25 area, Hillingdon tube station is a good place to park and you can get the Metropolitan line in. Leave the M25 at Junction 16 and follow the M40 then A40 to the Master Brewer Junction.

The Honiton - Waterloo fares aren't to bad but the Paddington ones are a rip off!
