18:07 Taunton to Cardiff Central due 20:21

Apparently a problem in the Severn Tunnel. Don't know any more details.

Live departure boards delay reasons are often very vague and far from the truth. The reason given is the most plausable reason from the info I've been given.

Looking at the apparent issue at Severn Tunnel it is plausible, unfortunately I can't get a list of trains affected until tomorrow to confirm.

I'll concede that an abnormally high tide can cause issues in the Severn Tunnel, not sure if that was the case today though. I'm also not aware of any adverse weather conditions in that part of the world today. I live in an area overlooking that part of the Severn Estuary and the weather was fine all day.

A train encountered a "mist" in part of the tunnel and when it got out there was mud sprayed over the windscreen. Not surprisingly, an inspection was required!

Ah, but FGW (First Great Western) have tools on their platforms, ideal for dealing with such situations, apparently!  See http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=1699.msg11620#msg11620  Wink Cheesy Grin
