^80 million?Huh? Shocked

All that's needed is 9 miles of single track and a railcar, not High Speed 2!

Ok, new bridge after leaving Barnie to pass under the new road and road crossings to be reinstated but considering that the L&BR (British Rail(ways)) reckon on about ^40 million to reinstate 19 miles of 70-odd year old trackbed with numerous missing bridges, washed-away embankments, dozens of landowners and replica rolling stock to build I really can't see where they get this figure from......!

Great idea though.

From the North Devon Gazette:

North Devon's tiny railway on Christmas Day TV

North Devon will benefit from a prime time television slot when the episode of James May's Toy Stories recounting this summer's bid to set a model railway record along the Tarka (Line from Barnstaple to Exeter) Trail is screened on Christmas Day.

The attempt in August was de-railed when the weather and vandals forced efforts to build the tiny Hornby railway along a 10-mile route between Barnstaple and Bideford to be aborted some two miles short of its destination.

Around 400 local volunteers had spent 12 hours battling against the odds to try and complete the project and set a world record.

But the attempt created a memorable attraction for the volunteers and the many spectators who came out to watch and cheer them on - and many of them will now feature in the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) 2 programme, which is due to be screened at 7pm on Christmas Day.
