Please would someone confirm the following oddballs from nationalrail.co.uk Journey Planner, and if possible offer an explanation:-

1. While there is an offpeak day return from Bath to Bridgend at ^23, there is no equivalent from Freshford, Trowbridge etc. The only fare offered is an Anytime single ^21.40 or Anytime Return at ^33

2. In fact, there seem to be no Off Peak fares from West Wilts stations to anywhere in Wales beyond Cardiff (whether on main line or up the valleys)

3. There is also an Off Peak (month) return from Bath to Bridgend. At ^32.90 valid on any train, it isn't much of a bargain compared with the ^33 anytime return from Trowbridge.

4. There are advance tickets from Bath to Bridgend. On 10th September (date picked at random), the cheapest fare is on the 07:25 off Bath (^6) compared with ^12.20 on many off-peak trains.

Which would be the regulated fares on:
a) Bath-Bridgend
b) Trowbridge-Bridgend?
 Huh

It MAY be the case that the fare is set by ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))), who don't seem to have many CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')) fares.

 Huh

In both cases it would be the off peak return (aka saver)
The Cheap day return yoiu quote is not regulated and could be increased up to the price of the off peak return.

Can't comment on why there are no off peak fares to Bridgend from Trowbridge, however if you want a cheaper walk up fare than the ^33 SOR (Anytime, return within 1 month), you should split your tickets at Cardiff Central.

TRO» (Trowbridge - next trains)-CDF» (Cardiff - next trains) (SOR) ^19.50
CDF-BGN (SDS) ^3.50
BGN-CDF (SDS) ^3.50

Total: ^26.50
