Sorry, I don't see why regular travellers who already pay sky high fares should have to fork out extra for parking. Many people have to drive to the station. Supermarkets don't charge! We pay for shopping. As for, "people will just park and buy a single to the next stop" - have a ^10 minimum fare to validate your parking! (similar to supermarkets who do this to stop people buying a mars bar to validate a free days parking! ) And I'll explain the "green idea" to you. Each day, the train service runs (hopefully!) giving off X tons of CO 2. I can either drive to work, releasing an addtional Y tons or take the train, releasing none. In fact I reduce emissions, as there will be slightly less congestion. Ah, all well and good Btline. But does your carbon footprint take into account all the gas you release on this forum?

Supermarkets don't charge! We pay for shopping. And folk who walk to the supermarket subsidise your parking space. I am not saying that is wrong but to be fair folk who walk whoudl get a discount.

I remember in Norwich, there was a manned multi-story car-park next to the station, if you got your car=park pass stamed in the station (on production of a valid ticket), then you got a reduction on the parking rate.
and you still do today ............ Price to park in St Ives station these days ? St Ives station isn't owned by the railway, wonderful BR▸ sold it off in the 70's. As for Liskeard, if your so tight that you're not going to pay ^2.00 for parking for a whole day then you need to get a life!

Many people have to drive to the station.
Does something bad happen if they don't? By your logic, my ^12 AP ticket to London means I should pay through the roof at my car park, to subsidise those poor souls on the ^70 SVR fare who should get free parking due to paying such ridiculous fares. Yeh right...

If it was FREE parking, it would probably be full by 7 am. How would you suggest that these people will be kept out?
By, as I have said twice previously, by only having free parking for Season Ticket holders and those who spend more than, say, ^10 (or more) in fares. Most stations in the West Midlands have free parking. (ok, it's because they are sponsored by NWM/Centro) As a result, people drive from places outside the midlands to park there.

Awful start to the New Year
Cancellations to services between Liskeard and Bodmin Parkway
Due to a person being hit by a train between Liskeard and Bodmin Parkway all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 19:15 01/01.
Emergency services are attending this incident and working to get the lines reopened as quickly as possible. Road transport has been requested to run between Plymouth and Truro, and vice-versa, but the first of 8 coaches requested to run between Truro and Plymouth are not expected to arrive (at Truro) prior to 18:00.

Services are at a halt west of Plymouth on the Mainline due to a person being struck by a train late this afternoon. Replacement Road transport is difficult due to First Kernow operating a much restricted service today. Ticket acceptance has been extended into tomorrow.

Neither first Kernow or Plymouth citybus operating today. Road transport impeded by the A30 being closed at Lanivet for serious RTC

Apologies for being ultra-parochial but today is a great day at Liskeard Station, the station cafe has reopened, now run by the lovely ladies from the Bodmin and Wenford. So now a decent coffee and a good bacon bap can be purchased to tide one over on a journey to Paddington until the slow slow IET▸ trolley service gets to you.( Often an hour or more, and of course when it does, there is no bacon baps!!)

Just passed through Liskeard, and, indeed, there was an announcement that the trolley's disappearing for the foreseeable as there's a crew change at Plymouth.

*Slips into a reverie inspired by recollections of the pre-2015 07:30 Paddington to Penzance via Bristol, departing Bath Spa just before 9, which for some time fairly reliably had a 'Travelling chef' on board to Exeter*
*Snaps back to reality* Probably best to avoid the cappucino from the trolley as the ingredients provided don't give the staff much to work with. Also, probably best for the railway to avoid referring to inclusive pricing for a coffee and a biscuit as a 'Meal deal'.
On Saturday, the 07:38 from Bristol to Penzance was flagged as having no catering on board. At the cornish pasty place in the underpass at Bristol, the price of a coffee + bacon roll turned out to be something like £3:19. I asked if I'd been undercharged, it emerged that they were running a deal for for a coffee and bacon sandwich together.
On to the train with those, and found that, after all, there were catering staff aboard. Felt rather sorry for them for the first hour, as they were now faced with the task of selling drinks to passengers who'd all made their own provision - and on a very sparsely populated train.
