Has anyone yet suggested a diversion of HS2 (The next High Speed line(s)) through London ...

Manchester Piccadilly ... Manchester Airport ... Birmingham Interchange ... Old Oak Common ... London Paddington ... Bond Street ... Tottenham Court Road ... Farringdon ... Liverpool Street  ... Stratford ... Ashford ... Lille ... Paris Nord

Suggestion for 1st April announcement?   But yet the tunnels are gauged for full size trains, and it will get passengers to the heart of the West End and The City, change on the same platform in Central London for Docklands.  Lots of other connections along the way.

HS2 (The next High Speed line(s)) is at such an advanced stage that scrapping it could lose the Conservatives the next election, and delivering HS2 could just help them keep office in the next election but one.


Given support from the public for the construction of HS2 runs at around 25%, with a similar number indifferent, I very much doubt either of those scenarios apply.

I also don't think it'll be "scrapped" but there is likely to be further trimming, and rather than deceased felines, it's likely to be dressed up as more money being made available for the NHS/Education etc etc.

Initial logic might suggest that.  Yet there are some very wriggly lines just outside St Pancras on ... err ... HS1 (High Speed line 1 - St Pancras to Channel Tunnel).  Modern trains do not need the bowling alley of Brunel's original London to Bristol line. (( Or were you thinking of the corners on the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) which, I grant you, are a bit sharp ))

Actually I'd always thought that building a tunnel between Old Oak Common and Stratford International, terminating domestic services at Ebbsfleet might be a good idea.

1) Ease pressure on Euston
2) Tons of room at Ebbsfleet to turn trains around
3) Tons of room at Ebbsfleet to build a larger international terminal providing end-on connections to Europe 
4) With Elizabeth Line extension to Ebbsfleet, better connections for south-east London
5) Better connections from S E England to the rest of the country.

Yes, it was in the plan at one time to link Euston to HS1 (High Speed line 1 - St Pancras to Channel Tunnel) however the good folk in Camden objected to and even larger area of Camden being flattened to accommodate the link line along side the North London Line.

There was a proposal to link OOC (Old Oak Common (depot)) to Stratford but that was ruled out on cost.

Whilst the a direct service from anywhere outside of London St Pancras International to Europe would be a fantastic service to have, while some in the UK (United Kingdom) have an obsession about "controlling our boarders" and not wanting to be part of the Schengen area this means changing trains and going through Boarder Control at St Pancras and perhaps Ebbsfleet and Ashford if they ever reopen, the cost of Border Control at other stations for perhaps the 1 or 2 trains a day would be prohibitive

If you reduce capacity from 18 to 10 trains per hour, no doubt you can reduce signalling system costs - but what proportion of the cost is that?  You are certainly not cutting the cost of the project to 10/18ths, so the cost per service when running at capacity is increased isn't it?   Of course, if the capacity isn't actually needed ... and then you could have 10 long trains rather than 18 shorter ones.

'...it has been reported...' by who exactly? These frequent unattributed anti-HS2 (The next High Speed line(s)) reports just serve to reinforce my view that certain sections of our news media are a complete and utter shower.
