Is this the one with electric locomotives on Virgin services? Seems the Sun have their rose tinted spectacles on.

'A source close to the probe said: "He was considered a reliable driver but his career looks like it has hit the buffers.' A source close to the probe?? More like some giggling sub or copy editor. British journalism at it's best

Erm, no. A "greengrocer's apostrophe" (or, I suppose, a greengrocers' apostrophe, depending on how many greengrocers you're including in your reckoning) is one used, erroneously, in a plural (apple's, pear's etc). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe#Greengrocers.27_apostrophesPutting an apostrophe in the genitive of "it", whilst incorrect, doesn't qualify (with apologies for my pedantry, bignosemac...).

William Huskisson MP▸ was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830. Many more have died in the same way since then. Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

I've often asked why the genitive of "it" has no apostrophe. The answer is always: "it's the exception that proves the rule".
Perhaps it's time for an apostrophe amnesty....

Hmm. Probably best if we don't let TerminalJunkie hear about any such suggestion here ... ?

Just thought I'd pop in and offer my thanks for looking in on the "crafty one off the wrist" story... As someone mentioned it was written by The Sun, which is best described as the Beano with Sports Pages; personally I think that someone somewhere has taken liberties with the facts but it still makes for an entertaining read. Hope you've enjoyed looking over the rest of the site. All the best, Driver Potter http://wimbledonparkdepot.spaces.live.com
