Double decker buses for Exmouth

From the Exmouth Herald:

The increasing popularity of visitors, shoppers and commuters travelling by bus between Exmouth and Exeter could lead to the No 57 route becoming a 'double decker' only service.

At a meeting of the Exmouth Public Transport Partnership Stage Coach confirmed they were 'working towards' a double decker-only route.

The partnership comprises of First Great Western, the Town Council, Exmouth Community Association, Stage Coach, Exmouth Taxi Association and the county council.

its double decker 90% of the time and its hopeless it takes ages its expencive, train is quicker more frequent and cheaper... only single deckers i seen are the odd ones that continue to sidmouth the long way and they are normally the 157 ummmmmmm another example of media being several years behind|!

Quite. The 57 route between Exeter and Exmouth is along one of Exeter's most notorious traffic corridors. And thats before the ultilities start randomnly digging up bits of Topsham Road which they do with monotonous regularity. The A379 is definitely a road to go on if your not in a hurry. The train is the far better option and far more reliable.

And, if you are used to a clapped out Stagecoach bus, there won't be much difference with the FGW^▸ (First Great Western) train service

thats a good point the exmouth route is served by some of the older busses in the fleet, along with the barnstaple bus route which gets the oldest busses in the fleet.... wow just like the toc oldest units for exmouth and barny

I thought Stagecoach had made Route 57 (Exeter-Exmouth) 'all double decker' two years ago when they introduced the ex-London ex-Cambridge park and riders. Although the train still uses Leyland Nationals (=class 142) I would still rate it a superior ride, and twice as fast, centre to centre, now that the line;s nearly all welded track. I think the punctuality is better, too! Bumper

i do agree that all you need is someone with a load of change or someone that stands there and argues about the price and the bus falls behind, add to that the traffic on the exeter road then over countess weir and thats a long ride! i bet you could cycle it faster at some times of the day, however the cost would be deemed unaceptable so it wont happen
