Oh, that's interesting! Definitely hadn't spotted that. I guess I've been conditioned over the years not to touch anything remotely near an "Emergency Exit" sign...

I wonder if a little leaflet for passengers, along the lines of "here's where you'll find things", would help first-time travellers like me.

That would be VERY last year.
The correct modern way to adjust the temperature would be via a complicated "app" that requires multiple passwords and navigating a multi layer menu. A loud beeping should signify that the app has successfully communicated with the control.
For best results there should be a random chance of also altering the temperature in the next room, and causing a similarly loud beep in that room.
As an improvement, cause the temperature to auto reset to "too cold" at say Plymouth in order that the customer may "re-confirm" the previously selected temperature is still required. This will improve customer service.

Think of the marketing opportunities ! anyone selecting "warmer" can be bombarded with adverts for thermal underwear, blankets and tropical holidays.

It's true, broadgage - There's an app for everything these days:

I guess there's no holding back the future!

By air of course, but with the option to purchase indulgences by which the carbon emissions may be forgiven.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

A very late (and short) arrival this morning;

21:45 Penzance to London Paddington due 05:07

13/09/21 21:45 Penzance to London Paddington due 05:07 will be diverted between Taunton and Reading and terminated at Reading.
It will no longer call at London Paddington.

It has been previously delayed, has been further delayed at Taunton and is now 188 minutes late.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Both Up and Down sleepers were at Exeter St Davids at the same time last night [there is a picture in a closed facebook group]

I suspect most sleeper passengers will be glad of the longer lie-in! I certainly would.

A longer lie-in, maybe, but chucked out at Reading at 06:39!

Indeed. Not the ideal preparation for a day's work in London, which is probably why most passengers would have been on the sleeper.

Sleepless night for some tonight....

23:45 London Paddington to Penzance due 07:50
Facilities on the 23:45 London Paddington to Penzance due 07:50.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Will be formed of 9 coaches instead of 7.
Additional Information
Due to a resourcing issue we are unable to operate this evenings Sleeper service between London Paddington and Penzance / Penzance and London Paddington.

We have arranged for this service to be operated by one of our regular Intercity Express Trains which will offer a Standard and First Class seating service only. There will be no accommodation facilities.

If you are affected by this change to your journey and have not been contacted by our dedicated team concerning your travel arrangements, please contact our Customer Services team on 03457000125.

Whilst looking at the sleeper delay on journeycheck just now, I spotted this comment on RealTime Trains -
288.52  Reading [RDG(resolve)]
Service gains coaches here, stops to drop passengers off only
.........
+66

I'd never noticed it gains coaches at Reading - is this for an early morning Reading commuter rush into London?

And just noticed the down sleeper drops off coaches on its run down!

I would suspect it might gain a locomotive on the back? ... As it says "stops to drop off passengers only" it can't officially provide an extra commuter service - though I suspect staff could use it as such.

A pretty spectacular delay to the down sleeper last night.......should just about reach Penzance in time for lunch!

23:45 London Paddington to Penzance due 07:54

04/07/22 23:45 London Paddington to Penzance due 07:54 has been delayed at Reading and is now 187 minutes late.
This is due to a fault on this train.
