His departure follows John Hutton who quit as defence secretary and James Purnell who resigned as work and pensions secretary on Thursday.

With a bit of luck, the year will allow the Labour Party to re-group, enough to tackle the issues from Autumn, and with a bit of luck, win the next election.

Let's face it, that "reshuffle" is a low point, It can't get much worse....
