A sleeping drunk man was mistaken for a dead body when he took a nap on the train line.

Trains travelling through Reading were delayed after the snoozing man was spotted on the tracks between Goring and Pangbourne at around 2pm today.

First Great Western had to suspend services for up to an hour to deal with the incident causing a backlog of trains.

Albert Ryan, a spokesman for British Transport Police, said: ^We had a call at 1.58pm to report a dead body on the line but when police attended they found an intoxicated male asleep on the railway line."

The man was arrested at the scene.

Spare a thought for the driver who first came upon this idiot - the guy was so drunk and out of it that he looked dead.

I caught a delayed service from Swindon to Newport. The TM^‡ announced that the delay was down to what was first thought to be a fatality but fortunately wasn't. It is interesting to hear the full story.

It was only by chance a Train Manager spotted this guy. Due to a points failure outside Reading a service was being brought to a stand due to a backlog of trains, and happened to see this guy face down near the line, can't be blamed for thinking the worst.
