Hello all,

I have posted on the Kennet Line forum as well as I'm considering moving house to the West from East London. Can anyone tell me please their experiences of travelling from Twyford every morning to Paddington leaving Twyford at around 0630.

How packed are the trains at that time of the day? I use the underground every day now so am used to busy trains but just wondered how bad things are ?

Hello Anthony W and welcome to the forum...

Hopefully someone will be able to answer your question...  I travelled regularly from Maidenhead (one stop from Twyford) to Paddington every day for many years, but never quite that early in the morning so I can't help you with any information I'm afraid.

I can't tell you what the commute is like however there are a number of fast trains at that time:
Turbo: 0623 Twyford - Paddington one intermediate stop (Maidenhead) Paddington @ 0655
HST125: 0654 Twyford - Paddington one intermediate stop (Maidenhead) Paddington @ 0726

The rest will consist of stopping Turbo trains to Paddington.

You probably won't have any difficulty getting a seat on the way into London as the seats only really become at a premium from Maidenhead onwards. The return journey is also OK as long as you get to Paddington in time to see the train's platform advertised and position yourself in an advantageous position on the station - as a regular commuter you'd soon work out what I mean!

The 06:54 is usually too early for me but I do catch it maybe once a month or so. My experience with it is that there are always plenty of seats available on arrival at Twyford but on departure from Maidenhead all seats are taken with maybe half a dozen or so people standing in each end vestibule. Hope that helps!

Sadly not like the 1980s under Network South East - the Twyford to Paddington services were class 50 hauled with ten carriages and non-stop from Maidenhead. Wonderful stuff - 100mph through Slough.

Caught the 1806 (Frome) last night. It was a 125, first stop Twyford (c1829), down main platform, into Reading punctually, platform 4, 1836. Off peak tickets valid, full and standing but can cope with that.

Well done FGW▸ (First Great Western).
