William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Don't forget the poor little old fellows of 60 have already been 'shafted' and paid tax for the previous 45 years so it is good to get something back for a change.....

There are plenty of my parents generation who left Uni at 21 (with no debts), and retired at 60 with a final salary pension.  Most of them will live until 80+ which means that they will have lived longer without working than they worked for.

Thanks, chrisoates - but as this topic had already been started, I've just taken the opportunity to merge your post with the existing thread.

What happens to Club 55 (the lower fare 'club' for people a little older that I am) after 7th April?

It closes.  It was only meant to run until then.  There will be a review and then they will decide if / when to do it again.

Strong rumours Club 55 will return in September.  Dont knowdate or price if same or not but good news for those of you who qualify   Grin

For those of you who are familiar it will be a flat rate turn up and go ticket for anywhere on the FGW (First Great Western) network.  Valid off peak but only if you are over 55.

From memory the standard return was about 20 pounds.

For those almost wrinklies among us, Club 55 is making a comeback from mid-September to early December.  Grin

My thought is, if FGW (First Great Western) are cash strapped and/or greedy enough to muck about with the normal range of tickets to boost their revenue, why start running a promotion with cheaper tickets? Huh Huh

(For those who don't know Club 55 is where anyone over 55 years old can travel for ^25 return on FGW services & senior railcard holders get another ^5 off)
