These Carnets have been arond for a couple of years now on the Barnstaple branch, and provide very good value. Also available on the Gunnislake branch, and some branch lines in Cornwall I think. Vacman can probably tell us which ones!

We run the Carnets.  There are two on the Tamar Valley Line (one from Calstock/Gunnislake, the other Bere Alston/Bere Ferrers) to Plymouth, one from Looe to Plymouth and Morchard Rd/Copplestone/Yeoford to Exeter.    All are to encourage more commuting and the Tamar Valley Line ones have been particularly successful with a fifth of all journeys on the line made using one.

We've just placed ads in the relevant papers - I'm guessing you saw the Crediton Gazette, signalandtelegraph?  If that was the ad you saw, they have used the wrong artwork and we'll have to make sure they do us a new ad using the right one!

Can you let me know by replying to this thread please.

Thanks,

Richard Burningham,

Thanks S&T (Signalling and Telegraph).

They won't be getting paid for that!   We'll get the right one in next week.

Questions:

1. Are they true carnets in the French sense that you buy 10 tickets and then anynumber of people can use them and swop them around between themselves or are they like most UK (United Kingdom) tickets non transferrable?

2. Are they single or return? If they are single presumably you use another for the return journey thus getting 5 return trips?

1.  Yes, they are fully transferable.  More than one person can travel on a book as long as there are enough tickets remaining in it.

2.  They are single (each carnet is a book of ten single tickets), so you indeed can make 5 return trips.

Richard thanks that's good to hear.

We seem to get awfully hung up about non tranferability of tickets in this country.

Has it made a difference to passenger numbers?
